Sub-Novice track and field is a great way for kids to learn athletics while getting a chance to socialize with their classmates and other kids from the parish. Everyone on the team will be eligible to participate in two meets, but competition is not our primary purpose. Our season goal is instructional – teaching kids how to run, jump, enjoy athletics, and support their teammates. Each meet will offer four events for every athlete, the 100m, 200m, 400m, and the long jump. Races will not be timed, and jumps will not be marked in competition. Athletes will be grouped by grade level for competition. Every athlete will receive a participation ribbon after completing the 400m dash.
It is possible (practically encouraged!) to participate in sub-novice track and field and other spring sports. It is a fairly short season, so hopefully conflicts will be minimal. There are no participant limits at the meets, so every child can compete in all four events.
Sub-Novice Track and Field is open to all parishioners of Corpus Christi and students of Corpus Christi School who were born between 1/1/10 and 12/31/13. (Third graders who were born in 2009 are eligible to compete as Novices on the varsity team).
Practice will be every Monday and Friday, from 5:30pm to 6:45pm beginning Monday, March 18th and ending with the second meet on Friday, May 3rd. REC students who are conflicted on Mondays can certainly arrive late or leave early as need be. Practices will be at the Corpus Christi track at Jack’s Lane, behind the Church/School off Supplee Road. Every runner should bring a full water bottle and sweats to warm up. Proper running shoes are a must!
The fee for 2018 is $35. You can wear your shirt from last year. If you need a new shirt, there is an additional $5 fee per registered athletes. Additional black Corpus Christi CYO Track and Field t-shirts and dry-fit long sleeve warm up shirts can be purchased for $15 as well. Please see the flyer here – https://goo.gl/eEEu6A.
